We had quite the interesting week of whale watching, seeing whales on 5 of our 6 tours, and killer whales on 2 of them. We had our first tour of the season with no whales, which is always a bummer. The good news is, we had wonderful weather and a lot of wonderful wildlife sightings on that tour including Steller Sea Lions, Harbor Porpoise, Harbor Seals, Bald Eagles, a Sea Otter, and much more. We are thankful that we only have 3-5 tours every year with no whales (out of over 200).
We had great visits this week from the T124A, T100B, and T019 families of killer whales. We also had some great humpback and gray whale encounters this week.
Our most memorable encounter of the week came on Friday’s tour, when we ventured down all the way to Hat Island, in Possession Sound, where we met up with the T124A and T100B families of killer whales, who were hanging out together. The long boat ride was well worth it, as we could immediately see a ton of splashing and commotion upon arriving on scene. We watched as the two families were very social with each other, having a good time together. There was lots of cartwheels, tail slaps, mini breaches, and sideways whales.
We have been absolutely loving all of the sunshine we have been having, and it looks like it will be continuing. Don’t miss your chance for some springtime whale watching!
